Selection of shampoo is crucial, however, its correct use is equally important. Gentle application and thorough rinsing helps maximize beneficial effects of active ingredients and maintains hair and scalp in optimum condition.

1. Use a small amount of shampoo (a hazelnut size for short hair and a walnut size for long hair).
2. Apply it to your palms.
3. Make foam.
4. Massage it gently into your scalp and move ahead all your head in circular motion.
5. Rinse with lukewarm water – too hot water can dry your hair.
6. Repeat washing if needed.
7. Do not forget to apply conditioner after washing with shampoo for additional care.

Inappropriate habits can burden your hair, dry it or, vice versa, make scalp and successively also hair get greasy fast. What to be careful about?

1.    Using too hot water

High water temperature opens hair cuticle and can cause drying and loss of shine. Lukewarm water is ideal for washing and colder water for rinsing to close hair follicle.

2.    Too much shampoo 

More lather does not mean better washing. A hazelnut size is sufficient for short hair and a walnut size for long hair.

3.    Application of shampoo to the lengths of your hair instead of scalp 

Shampoo serves for washing scalp where sebum and impurities are formed. The lengths of hair are naturally washed during rinsing.

4.    Insufficient rinsing 

Shampoo residues can cause itching, scalp irritation or get hair greasy fast. Rinse your hair properly until it feels “squeaky”.

5.    Too frequent or infrequent washing 

Each type of hair has different needs. Fine hair gets greasy fast and needs more frequent washing, while dry hair can be washed less often but with an emphasis on hydration.

6.    Rough rubbing with a towel 

Aggressive rubbing with a towel disrupts hair structure and leads to breakage. Instead of rubbing, squeeze your hair to the towel or use a cotton T-shirt.

7.    Only one hair washing 

If you use hair styling products, wash your hair twice – the first washing removes impurities and sebum, the second allows acting of effective substances.

8.    Thorough drying of scalp

Another important step that tends to be often forgotten is correct drying of scalp. If scalp is wet for too long time, it can lead to many unpleasant problems. A damp environment is ideal for reproduction of yeasts and bacteria, which can cause irritation, imbalance or even unpleasant itching. 

Moreover, wet hair at roots can become a breeding ground for increased production of sebum, due to which hair gets greasy fast and loses freshness. Such a long-term condition can contribute to dandruff formation.

For that reason, it is important not only to carefully wash but also nourish your hair and dry it at roots correctly and thoroughly. 

If you prefer natural drying, try to gently dry your hair with a towel and let it air dry. If you use a hair dryer, set a medium temperature and dry your hair from the roots to the ends to prevent overheating and drying of scalp.
