Ectoin
Ectoin is a natural compound obtained by a biotechnological method, in particular by fermentation. Exploits bacteria surviving in extreme environmental conditions, such as salt lakes and deserts. These specific strains of bacteria are grown in highly saline environment, where they naturally produce Ectoin as part of their metabolic process.
Ectoin is amino acid that bonds water and helps maintain the skin intensely hydrated. At the same time, it creates valuable protective layers around cells, which stabilizes them, maintains and protects vital biological structures (membranes, proteins, enzymes and nuclear acids). Its effect enhances barrier function of the skin and makes it more resistant to environmental stressors, such as UV radiation and others, particularly smog pollution.
A significant effect of Ectoin is ability to soothe irritated and problematic skin. Due to these properties, it is suitable for use in products intended for dry, sensitive or mature skin to contribute to overall soothing, hydration and protection. The products containing Ectoin are ideal mainly for the customers living in urban environment, where the skin is exposed to pollution the most.
