The POPPY Limited Edition: A Story That Began at Blooming Fields

Our limited editions always include something extra: a moment of surprise, deep emotions and space for creativity. 

The POPPY collection is no exception. It draws inspiration from the Czech countryside the power of traditional ingredients, presented through a modern concept for face, body and hair. 

Its origin is the result of not only our development and creative team but also a close collaboration with influencer Shopaholic Nicol, who actively participated in every stage of the collection’s growth.

How did the idea for the Poppy collection originate?

Bára: Manufaktura has had the concept of the poppy - a traditional local Czech ingredient - in mind for many years. I must admit that I can’t recall exactly when the idea first sparked. The concept was tucked away in a “bottom drawer” for several years.

The Poppy fit the 2026 news cycle perfectly because this year, we decided to launch the limited edition in early spring: the period when poppy fields begin to blossom so beautifully. When I told Nikol that we were considering a poppy collection to see if she would like to collaborate with us, she lit up immediately. She was so excited that we started “creating” right away

Nikol, why did you get excited about the poppy right from the start?

Nikol: I found the idea of creating a poppy-theme spring collection amazing. I particularly enjoyed the idea of using the purple poppy rather than the classic red, because it isn’t as well known. 

When we started to conceive the form of the collection, the product formulations and the fragrance, I was completely absorbed. I enjoyed the entire process tremendously. :-)

Why is the poppy good for cosmetic products? What did you find most interesting about its effects?

Bára: Poppy oil has many beneficial and interesting effects for face, hair and body care that are not widely known. It is naturally rich in omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty oils, antioxidants (polyphenols), vitamin E and minerals. It possesses regenerating, hydrating, soothing and nourishing qualities that provide the skin with velvety softness and enhance its natural vitality.

The poppy is closely connected to the Czech countryside. What role did the “local story” play in creating the collection?

Bára: A major one. It is strongly emotional because the fragile tender beauty of blooming poppy fields at the turn of spring and summer is very moving for many of us. 

At Manufaktura, we love emotions, nostalgia, romanticism, and memories of childhood spent in the countryside. 

At the same time, we were very happy that our development department discovered an amazing source of poppy oil at the Marek family farm in South Moravia.

What was the assignment for the fragrance? What did you expect?

Bára: The perfumers didn’t get an easy brief from us... The fragrance had to evoke summer well-being, blooming poppy fields, sunshine, cleanliness, freedom and harmony…

Nikol: This time we wanted to go the way of a pure, powdery fragrance – the kind that evokes a feeling of cleanliness and freshness. I must say, they did a perfect job. The fragrance is beautiful and very different from what Manufaktura customers are used to. This is what I love about our limited editions: the fact that we can surprise even our long-term customers.

For some people it may be surprising that the poppy collection is toned purple rather than red. What is the reason?

Bára: In our cosmetics, we use the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum), which blooms in colours ranging from white to purple and is valued for its high-quality, oil-rich seeds. The poppy oil, with its soft nourishing effects on the skin, is obtained from these seeds. The red poppy is more decorative and is usually not used in the cosmetic industry.

Who invented the design? 

Bára: The design of the poppy collection is built on beautiful watercolour poppy motifs. They were drawn by our talented young graphic designer Nikol. Nikol (Shopaholic Nicol) and I fell in love with them at first sight. We created the packaging graphics together with our designer Anička. 

I am so happy to allow my younger colleagues to take part in creating our collections. The enthusiasm and joy in their eyes when they see the finished product for the first time is simply enchanting.

You cooperated on the collection - how did this collaboration work in practice?

Bára: The POPPY collection is our fourth together. We consult on the formulation, the desired effects of individual products, select the fragrances, and test the products at various development stages. We also collaborate on the design. We look forward to each collection from the very beginning, enjoying the process more and more every time.

Nikol, what do you like most about cooperation on the creation of the collection?

Nikol: Sincerely, the entire process and the collaboration with Bára. I feel that we really “match” each other - that we can get excited about the same things and that, in most cases, we share a very similar vision. 

I always enjoy when there is a brand-new type of product in our collection. We have one in the poppy collection: the multifunctional colour, which is amazing!

Which product do you find to be a “must-have”? 

Bára: The entire collection is a must-have :-). It is a hard choice, but if I had to choose just one, this time it would be the multifunctional colour. I absolutely love it and am so happy that we introduced it at Manufaktura.

Nikol: It is difficult! I definitely agree with Bára regarding the multifunctional colour: it has a lovely shade. It is exactly the product you want to use every day in spring and summer. Another favourite for me is the poppy oil. I love body and hair oils, and this one is amazing - ideal for holidays, for example. And then I must mention the eau de parfum, which has great longevity.

Do you have a personal memory or relationship connected with the poppy?

Bára: The blooming poppy fields touch my heart every year. I always have to stop for a while just to stare at the beauty. In those moments I realize how happy I am with where I live and how amazing it is to observe the changing countryside through the seasons. 

The poppy is a beloved ingredient in our family: we regularly relish noodles and dumplings with poppy seeds, poppy-seed pie with plums, and other delicacies. 

My recent memory is meeting Nikol in a café, where I brought the entire finished collection for the first time directly from our plant. Her enthusiasm, saying “Oh my God, Baru, it is amazing. It is our most beautiful collection...” was wonderful.     

Nikol: I have two strong moments. 

The first was when Bára brought the hand drawn poppy motif that became the main element of the entire collection. It was so beautiful that I was blown away. 

The second moment was seeing the entire collection together for the first time. I was touched by how beautiful it was. I find the collection visually exceptional and believe our customers will fall in love with it. I am already in love with it! :-)
